　　◆whose pron. & adj.

　　用作关系代词，在定语从句作定语，注意以下用法:

　　1. 既可以指人也可以指物。如：

　　Do you know anyone whose family is in Beijing? 你认识什么人家住北京的吗?

　　The river whose banks are covered with trees is very long. 两岸蔽满树木的那条河很长。

　　The deer whose leg had been hurt couldn’t run fast. 那只腿受伤的鹿不能跑得很快。

　　2. 引导定语从句的“whose+名词”，有时可换成其它结构，注意词序的变化。比较:

　　破了窗户的那座房子是空的。

　　正：The house whose windows are broken is empty.

　　正：The house the windows of which are broken is empty.

　　正：The house of which the windows are broken is empty.

　　正：The house with broken windows is empty.

　　3. 不仅可引导限制性定语从句，也可引导非限制性定语从句。如：

　　This is Tom, whose father is a doctor. 这是汤姆，他父亲是医生。

　　◆year n.

　　1. 表示“年”，注意在类似以下这样的句子中其前的冠词通常省略。如：

　　We are lucky to be in Paris at this time of (the) year. 我们很幸运能在一年的这个时候来到巴黎。

　　It’s the time of (the) year for the rice harvest. 这是一年收获稻子的时节。

　　注：成语 all the year round(一年到头，整年) 中的定冠词有时也可省略(有时 round 也省略)。如：

　　The farmers are busy all (the) year (round). 农民们一年到头都很忙。

　　The weather is so good here that we can swim all (the)year round. 这里天气很好，我们整年都可以游泳。

　　2. the year 有时可用作连词，引导时间状语从句。如：

　　His father died the year he was born. 他父亲在他出生那年去世。

　　He left Europe the year World War II broke out. 他是第二次世界大战爆发那一年离开欧洲的。

　　3. 复数的 years 可以表示“多年”。如：

　　I’ve known her for years. 我认识她多年了。

　　He left here years ago. 他已离开这儿多年。
