国家能源管理部门有官员表示，“新能源示范城”这个概念还处于前期酝酿中，对应的评估体系和相关政策正在起草中。
在上面的报道中，new-energy model city就是“新能源示范城”。新能源城市将大力推广wind energy(风能)、solar energy(太阳能)、geothermal energy resources(地热能源)等新能源的利用，鼓励green car(新能源汽车)、smart grid(智能电网)等产品的使用。
Model city就是“示范城”，model在这里的意思是“模范的，榜样的”，类似用法有model village(模范村)，model workers(劳模)，model wife(模范妻子)。“示范”也可以用其他表达方式，例如agriculture demonstration base(农业示范基地)。
