北京市政府新闻办通报，已经确认身份的66名遇难者中有5人为因公殉职。
上文中perish in the line of duty就是“因公殉职”的英文表达，perish是比较正式的词，一般情况下可以直接用die来替代;另外，也可以用be killed in the line of duty来表示，如：The police officer was killed in the line of duty during a criminal investigation.(那名警官在进行一宗刑事案件调查时因公殉职。)
其他61位遇难者的死亡原因有：溺水(drowned)，电击(electric shock)，房屋倒塌(collapsed buildings)，泥石流(flood debris)，创伤性休克(trauma-induced shock)，高空坠物(falling objects)以及雷击(lightning)。
