Patek Philippe is betting that a slight twist to the cities featured on its World Time watch can wind up some new customers in China.

　　A limited-edition version of the classic timepiece uses Shanghai to represent one of the 24 time zones, replacing Hong Kong, which usually appears. It was designed to celebrate the October 2012 opening of Maison Patek Philippe in Shanghai, and is sold only in Shanghai and Beijing, where it retails for 450,000 yuan, or about $72,000. The watchmaker declined to say how many it has sold but noted that a few are still available.

　　Design: The self-winding watch is a study in luxe construction, with 18-carat gold hands, a 22-carat rotor and an antiscratch sapphire-crystal case, as well as a wristband made of crocodile that has been certified by an animal protection agency.

　　Display: The World Time displays 24 cities around the world, including London, Caracas, Dubai and even Noumea, New Caledonia, and shows the current time in all of them. On the World Time Shanghai, the Chinese city is printed in red.

　　Exclusivity: Only 50 watches were produced, 25 in rose gold and 25 in white gold. In addition to the Patek Philippe certificate that comes with all of its timepieces, the World Time Shanghai’s arrives in a leather-bound folder.
