　　Chinese President Xi Jinping is promising reforms and new development so the country can - in his words - realize the "Chinese dream."

　　Xi made the pledge at the closing of this year's parliamentary sessions.

　　In his first public speech as Chinese president, Xi Jinping is calling on people across China to keep working toward the "Chinese dream."

　　"To realize the Chinese dream, China must take the Chinese way. The Chinese dream, after all, is the dream of the people. We must realize it by closely depending on the people. We must incessantly bring benefits to the people."

　　The concept of the "Chinese dream" has been the underlying philosophy of the new leadership since the Communist Party of China held its last sessoin late last year.

　　Xi Jinping says the Chinese dream belongs to every one of the over 1.3 billion people in this country.

　　"We must continuously realize, protect, and develop the most fundamental interests of the people and develop the entire country, and make the fruits of development include all the people in a fairer way. On the basis of the continuing development of the economy and society, we will progress forward in the direction of communal prosperity."

　　The new Chinese leadership is promising to double per capita GDP and personal incomes by 2020 from what they were in 2010.

　　Xi Jinping also says the Communist Party of China is the "core force" behind the goal of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

　　"We firmly oppose formalism, bureaucratism, firmly oppose hedonism, extravagance, and continue a resolute struggle to erase corruption. We will embrace the inherent political qualities of communist party members and vow to struggle for the cause of the Party and the people."

　　Xi Jinping, on top of taking over the Presidency from Hu Jintao, is also the head of the CPC Central Committee and the head of the party as well as the country's central military commission.
