Jewels taken by robber in France's Cannes worth 130 mln dollars: media
MARSEILLE, France, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The jewels snatched by an armed robber from a jewelry exhibition in the southeastern French city of Cannes could be worth more than 130 million U.S. dollars, local media reported on Monday.
Citing its own sources, the regional weekly Nice Matin said, "The armed robbery at the Carlton Hotel on Sunday is definitely spectacular even in the amount of loot."
The robbery took place around 11:30 a.m. local time (0930 GMT). A masked man left the exhibition with several bags containing jewelry and watches encrusted with diamonds.
An investigation is under way to arrest the robber.

位于戛纳主干道的卡尔顿酒店从7月20日开始举行顶级珠宝品牌列维夫珠宝展。28日中午，一名戴帽蒙面男子持自动手枪，闯入展厅内实施抢劫。他用数个口袋装满镶嵌钻石的珠宝和手表等展品后迅速逃离现场。整个作案过程时间很短，没有发生暴力行为。据当时的初步估计，被劫珠宝价值4000万欧元。
列维夫珠宝品牌已经连续几年在戛纳举办展览。此次展览于7月20日开幕，计划于8月30日结束。
此次珠宝遭劫案值和2003年2月发生在世界钻石切割之都比利时安特卫普钻石中心的失窃案值不相上下。钻石中心123个保险柜在一夜之间变得空空如也，直接损失约1亿欧元。
