　　George Clooney is engaged to marry the British human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, according to US media reports.

　　People magazine quoted a source saying the Oscar-winner's engagement to Ms Alamuddin occurred "not that long ago".

　　"George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key, but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem," the magazine reported, quoting the unnamed source.

　　"I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever," the magazine added.

　　E! News reported that Ms Alamuddin was wearing a "massive" ring while dining with Clooney and Cindy Crawford at a Malibu restaurant last week.

　　Clooney's agent Stan Rosenfield has declined to comment on the reports, saying he does not answer questions about the 52-year-old actor's personal life.

　　Ms Alamuddin, 36, is a Beirut-born British attorney who specialises in international law and human rights.

　　Her work has seen her defend WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and the former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

　　The couple has been spotted in New York and on trips to Tanzania and the Seychelles Islands in recent months.

　　Clooney was previously married to the actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993.　(Agencies)
