High-rollers in Beijing need to spend at least 87 million yuan on property, cars and other luxury goods in order to be regarded as one of the city's "new aristocrats", or upper class, the report said.
报告称，为了成为他人眼中的城市"新贵族"或上等阶层的一员，北京的富人至少要在房产、汽车和其他奢侈品上花掉8700万元。
在上面的报道中，high-roller就是指"富人"。此外，high-roller还经常用来指"挥金如土的人"和"狂赌的人"。例如：The son of our dean is a high roller.(我们主任的儿子挥金如土。)Arnold has always been a high roller when it comes to gambling.(赌博时，阿诺德总是不考虑后果乱下赌注。)
表示"挥金如土的人"还可以用free-spender，squanderer和bleeding cully来表示。其中bleeding cully可译为"出血的呆瓜"，暗含钱被骗走的意思。
