1、conservative

conservative作形容词，意为“保守的，守旧的”，作名词就是“保守者，因循守旧者”。如果首字母大写Conservative就是指“英国保守党，保守党人”，也可作形容词“保守党的，支持保守党的”。在涉及英国政策的文章时，这个词经常出现。

People tend to be more aggressive when they're young and moreconservative as they get older. 人们年轻的时候往往较为激进，而随着年龄的增长会变得保守起来。

She takes a basically conservative view of society. 她对社会的看法基本上是保守的。Most Conservative MPs appear happy with the government's reassurances. 大多数保守党下议院议员似乎都对政府的再三保证感到满意。

2、considerable

considerable是形容词，意为“相当大的，相当多的”，常用来修饰数量或程度。

The fire caused considerable damage to the church. 那场火灾令教堂造成了重大损失。

The project wasted a considerable amount of time and money. 那项工程耗费了相当多的时间和资金。

The series has aroused considerable interest. 这套系列节目引起了观众相当浓厚的兴趣。

3、considerate

considerate是形容词，意为“体贴的，替别人着想的，考虑周到的”，通常用来修饰人，同义词为thoughtful。

She is always polite and considerate towards her employees. 她对待雇员总是客客气气,关心体谅。

I've always understood one should try and be considerate of other people. 我一直认为一个人应该尽量为他人着想。

4、consist

consist是动词，它主要用在两个短语中。

第一，A consist in B 意为“A存在于B，A在于B”。

The beauty of the city consists in its magnificent buildings. 这座城市的美就在于它那些宏伟的建筑。

Happiness does not consist in how many possessions you own. 幸福不在于你拥有多少财产。

第二，A consist of B 意为“A是由B构成，A包含B”。

5、consistent

consistent是形容词，主要有两个意思。

There has been a consistent improvement in her attitude. 她的态度一直在改进。

第二，用 A be consistent with B 结构表示“A与B相符合，相一致”。

What the witness said in court was not consistent with the statement he made to the police.证人在法庭上的证供和他对警方的陈述不一致。

6、console

console是动词，意为“安慰，慰藉”。这个词还可以作名词，指电子设备或机器的”控制台，仪表盘“。动词和名词的意思差别比较大。

He consoled himself that he would see Kate again soon. 他安慰自己说很快就能再见到凯特了。

7、consolidate

consolidate是动词，常见意思为“加强，巩固”。

With this new movie he has consolidated his position as the country's leading director. 他新执导的影片巩固了他作为全国最佳导演的地位。

The first phase of the project is to consolidate the outside walls. 工程的第一阶段是加固外墙。

8、conspicuous

conspicuous是形容词，意为”显眼的，引人注目的”，

He tried not to look conspicuous and moved slowly along the back of the room. 他尽量不使自己显眼，沿着房间后部慢慢移动。

The award is given for notable or conspicuous achievement in science. 这个奖项颁给在科学领域中取得重大或引人注目的成就的人。

9、conspiracy

conspiracy是名词，意为“阴谋，密谋”。

I suspected that he was involved in the conspiracy. 我怀疑他参与了这场阴谋。

There was no evidence to link the brigade to any conspiracy againstMr Bush. 没有证据表明这帮人对布什先生图谋不轨。

10、constant

constant是形容词，意为“连续的，不断的”，还可以指数量或水平“恒定的，不变的”，注意例句中的意思。

There was a constant stream of visitors to the house. 去看这幢房子的游客川流不息。

He kept in constant contact with his family while he was in Australia. 他在澳大利亚时一直和家人保持着联系。

The level of unemployment remains fairly constant at around 10%. 失业率相当稳定地一直维持在10%左右。
