MAud考研英语每日单词：

1、confer

confer是动词，有两个意思。

第一，意为“商谈，商议”。

He wanted to confer with his colleagues before reaching a decision. 他想与他的同事先商议一下再作出决定。

第二，意为“给某人授予(奖项、学位、荣誉等)”。

An honorary doctorate of law was conferred on him by Newcastle University in 1976. 1976年，纽卡斯尔大学授予他荣誉法学博士学位。

The constitution also confers large powers on Brazil's 25 constituent states. 宪法还赋予巴西的25个成员州很大的权力。

2、conference

conference是名词，指大型或正式的“会议”，也可指“讨论会，协商会”。

I'm speaking at a conference next week. 我下周要在一个会议上发言。

The President summoned all the state governors to a conference on education. 总统召集各州州长召开了一次教育研讨会。

3、confess

confess是动词，意为“坦白，招认，承认”，还可指宗教中的“忏悔”。

I must confess that I didn’t have much faith in her ideas. 我必须承认对她的想法我没有什么信心。

She confessed to me that she had known his true identity for some time. 她向我承认她知道他的真实身分已有一段时间了。

Once we have confessed our failures and mistakes to God, we should stop feeling guilty. 一旦我们向上帝告明了自己的过失和错误，就不该再觉得内疚。

4、confidential

confidential是形容词，意为“秘密的，机密的”。

She accused them of leaking confidential information about her private life...她指责他们泄露其私生活的秘密。

5、confine

confine是动词，意为“把…限制在或局限于…”，常用confine sb / sth to sth结构。

Health officials have successfully confined the epidemic to the Tabatinga area. 卫生官员成功地将疫情控制在塔巴廷加地区。

The woman will be confined to a mental institution. 这个女人将被关进精神病院。

He was confined to a wheelchair after the accident. 经过那场事故后他就离不开轮椅了。

Let's confine our attention to the problem of illegal drugs. 让我们把注意力集中在违禁药物的问题上吧。

6、confirm

confirm是动词，意为“证实，确认”，是一个很常见的重要词汇。

Research has confirmed that the risk is higher for women. 研究已经证实，这种风险在女性中的比例更高。

These new statistics confirm our worst fears about the depth of the recession. 这些新的统计数据证实经济衰退已经严重到我们最为担忧的境地。

I've accepted the job over the phone, but I haven't confirmed in writing yet. 我已在电话中接受了这份工作，但还没有书面确认。

7、conflict

conflict作名词，意为“冲突，矛盾，分歧”，conflict也可作动词。

Employees already are in conflict with management over job cuts. 雇员已经就裁员一事与管理层发生了争执。

The National Security Council has met to discuss ways of preventing a military conflict. 国家安全委员会开会讨论防止发生军事冲突的办法。

There is a conflict between what they are doing and what you want. 他们所做的与你想要的之间存在冲突。

He held firm opinions which usually conflicted with my own. 他所持的观点通常与我的相左，而且很难改变。

8、conform

conform是动词，意为“遵从，遵守，符合”。

The meat market can continue only if it is radically overhauled toconform with strict European standards. 肉类市场只有经过彻底的大检查，严格遵守欧洲标准，才能继续营业。

The changes were introduced to conform with international classifications. 推行这些变革是为了与国际分类方法接轨。

The toys fail to conform to current safety standards. 这些玩具不符合现行的安全标准。

9、confront

confront是动词，意为“面临，面对，遭遇”。

As she left the court, she was confronted by angry crowds who tried to block her way. 她离开法庭时，愤怒的人群试图拦住她的去路。

It's an issue we'll have to confront at some point, no matter how unpleasant it is. 不管它有多讨厌，我们终究要面对这个问题。

She had decided to confront Kathryn with what she had learnt. 她决定拿自己了解的事实与凯瑟琳当面对证。

10、confuse

confuse是动词，意为“使某人困惑，把某物弄错”。

They confused me with conflicting accounts of what happened. 他们对发生的事所作的陈述自相矛盾,使我迷惑不解。

I will try to be brief and avoid further confusing the issue. 我尽量扼要地说，免得把问题弄得更复杂。

I sometimes confuse Jane with her sister. 我有时把简和她的妹妹搞混。
