For the very first time an emoji has replaced an actual word as the Oxford Dictionaries’ word of the year.

The “Face with tears of joy” emoji, more commonly known as “crying face”, was chosen as it summed up the “mood, ethos and preoccupations of 2015”.

While it might make some lover of English language feel like crying themselves, Oxford University Press says it’s now part of modern speech, with even Hillary Clinton asking for feedback in the form of emojis on Twitter recently.

But as the whole world seems to have fallen in love with the little symbols, how well do you understand it?

A new book - How to Speak Emoji - aims to teach us all the universal language, but could you decipher these famous quotes?
