1、porch /pɔːtʃ/

porch是名词，在英国英语中指屋子入口处的“门廊，门厅”，在美国英语中指屋子外面的“走廊”。

Is there a light in the porch or garden?

门廊或花园里有灯吗?

We'd eat during the hot summer evenings on the front porch.

在炎热的夏夜，我们会在屋前走廊上吃晚饭。

2、portable /ˈpɔːtəbəl/

portable是形容词，意为“轻便的，便携的”。

There was a little portable television switched on behind the bar.

柜台后面有一台开着的便携式小型电视机。

3、porter /ˈpɔːtə/

porter是名词，意为“搬运工，脚夫”，在英国也可指“门房，看门人”。

There aren't any porters, so we'll have to find a trolley for the luggage.

5、portrait /ˈpɔːtrɪt/

pose作名词我们都很熟悉，就是“姿势”，如拍照时摆pose，这里主要讲解动词的用法。第一，意为“产生，造成”困难，危险等，这个意思很常见，要注意例句中的搭配。

Rising unemployment is posing serious problems for the administration.

失业率上升正在给政府造成严重的问题。

This could pose a threat to jobs in the coal industry.

这可能会给煤炭产业的就业造成威胁。

第二，意为“提出”问题。

The statement posed more questions than it answered.

这份讲话提出的问题多于所回答的问题。

第三，作不及物动词，意为“摆姿势”，引申为“假装，假冒”，这时用pose as sb。

The prime minister posed for photographers.

The gang entered the building posing as workmen.

8、possess /pəˈzes/

possess是常见的动词，意为“拥有，具有”，基本用于书面语，比have更正式。

9、possession /pəˈzeʃən/

possession很明显是possess的名词形式，possession作不可数名词，意为“拥有，占有”，常用的复数形式possessions意为“所有物，财产”。

The possession of large amounts of money does not ensure happiness.

He had taken possession of one of the sofas.

10、post /pəʊst/

post是常用词，意思很多，作名词和动词都可以。post作名词时，常见的有以下四种意思。第一，意为“工作，职位”。

We will be creating 15 new posts next year.

Unfortunately they were unable to find a suitable person to fill the post.

遗憾的是他们一直找不到一个合适的人选填补空缺。

第二，作不可数名词，与邮政相关，可以指“邮政，邮递”，“邮件”，以及“邮件的投递或收取”。

There was a lot of post this morning.
