7. Task 3

Listening:

Response:

Thetheater studies department has announced a new requirement that theater majorstudents see the three plays they are studying. The man believes it to be agreat idea. His first reason is that seeing a play performed by real people ona stage complements the experience of studying the text itself. Seeing a playperformed is the only way to really understand it and be involved in the action. His second reason is that the department requirement is a great bargain. Payingthe price of one play to see three with transportation included is notexpensive, and can be a lot of fun. That is why the man believes therequirement is a good idea.

Reading:emotional reasoning :

11.

13. Task 5

Solution 2:

Response:

Theproblem the man is facing is that he can’t find his keys to his dorm room, andwhat’s worse, the history paper he left in his room is due in a couple ofhours. One solution is to talk to the professor and explain the situation. Theother solution is to contact the people in charge of campus security and havethe door unlocked. I think contacting campus security to unlock his door is abetter solution for him. This is better because the man already handed in hislast paper a day late. Since the man does not want to leave an impression onhis professor that turning in his assignment late is a regular thing with him,a 15 dollar fee is a small price to pay. This is also a better solution becausethis fee will teach him a lesson to be more careful, perhaps to prepare a sparekey somewhere else.

2.takea part-time job(woman

16. 20150912 Task 6

Listening:how ants adapt to underground environment where they build their nests

1.nests

1.不走直线,速度不定,会变速,走zigzag pattern,于是 predator 无法 anticipate 它的行为,就不好抓到它;

Response:

Preys’behaviours can be easily predicted by predators. The professor mentions thatsome preys have certain mechanism to confuse predators so that they can escapesuccessfully. The professor gives an example of squid. Firstly, they don’t movein a line and they always change their speed. They often move in a zigzagpattern so predators can’t anticipate their next move, thus missing the target. Moreover, squids can change colours. For instance, predators have stared at thepink squid for a long time, but it suddenly changed its colour into blue. Thenthe predators will be confused immediately, which will give squid a chance toescape.
