　　提到美国的Times Square，相信大家肯定都知道。Times Square 是位于美国纽约市曼哈顿的一块街区，被誉为“世界的十字路口”，也是世界各地旅客心目中的旅游胜地：

　　Times Square is a major commercial intersection in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets. Times Square, nicknamed "The Crossroads of the World" and "The Great White Way," has achieved the status of an iconic world landmark and is a symbol of New York City and the United States.

　　长期以来，Times Square通常被翻译成“时代广场”，听起来也很大气开阔。这样翻译对吗?我们先来看下面这段文字：

　　Formerly named Longacre Square, Times Square was renamed in April 1904 after The New York Times moved its headquarters to the newly erected Times Building, which is now called One Times Square and is the site of the annual ball drop on New Year's Eve.

　　Times Square前称为朗埃克广场，因《纽约时报》(The New York Times)而改名为时报广场。

　　《纽约时报》1851年9月18日创刊，1904年纽约时报总部在Times Square附近建立了25层大厦。《纽约时报》发行人阿道夫?奥克斯成功游说时任市长的小乔治?布林顿?麦克莱伦(George B. McClellan, Jr.)在当地设立地铁站，并在1904年4月8日将朗埃克广场正式更名为时报广场。
