Gesar
Gesar is a great heroic epic collectively created by Tibetan people. With a grand structure, rich contents, numerous volumes and a great momentum, it has a long history and spreads widely. Going through the processes of creation, fixing and constant evolution, the epic embodies all the primitive cores of Tibetan culture. It has a high academic value, aesthetic value and appreciation value and is an encyclopaedia for the study of ancient Tibetan society winning the title of "Eastern Homer’s Epic". King Gesar is the only live epic in the world since there are still almost a hundred folk artisans singing great achievements of King Gesar in Tibet, Sichuan, Inner Mongolia and Qinghai regions etc. Gesar epic tradition was successfully classified in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in September 2009.
