1、discretion

名词，有两个意思，第一指”谨慎，慎重”，第二个意思是“决定权，处理权”，这个意思的英文解释为 the freedom or power to decide what should be done in a particular situation。

He appreciated his discretion and his fidelity.

他欣赏他的谨慎和忠诚。

This committee may want to exercise its discretion to look into those charges.

这个委员会可能想行使其自行决定权来调查那些指控。

People want to have more discretion over their working hours.

人们要求对工作时间有更多的自主权。

2、 discriminate /dɪˈskrɪmɪneɪt/

discriminate是常见动词，有两个意思，第一个意思为“歧视，偏袒”，第二个意思是中性的，意为“区别，区分”。

Under federal law, it is illegal to discriminate against minorities and women.

联邦法律规定，歧视少数民族和妇女是违法的。

In order to increase the number of female representatives, the selection committee decided to discriminate in favour of women for three years.

3、disguise /dɪsˈɡaɪz/

Their healthy image disguises the fact that they are highly processed foods.

The woman in the park turned out to be a police officer in disguise.

4、 disgust /dɪsˈɡʌst/

disgust作名词和动词都可以，意为“厌恶，反感”，作名词时后面常用介词at/with，作动词时则为及物动词。

She expressed her disgust at the programme by writing a letter of complaint.

她写了封投诉信，表示对这个节目的反感。

A look of disgust came over his face.

他脸上显出厌恶的表情。

The level of violence in the film really disgusted me.

I was disgusted with myself for causing so much misery

5、dismay /dɪsˈmeɪ/

dismay作名词，意为“惊愕，沮丧”，英文释义为a feeling of unhappiness and disappointment。dismay也可作动词，意为“使…惊愕，沮丧”。

Aid workers were said to have been filled with dismay by the appalling conditions that the refugees were living in.

据说援助人员看到难民所处的恶劣生活环境时都感到非常沮丧。

The committee was dismayed by what it had been told. [be VERB-ed]

委员会对所告知的一切很是惊愕。
